Public witness hearings scheduled for Central Maine Power cases

Mon, 06/24/2019 - 8:45pm

The Maine Public Utilities Commission scheduled three public witness hearings concerning Central Maine Power Company.  The hearings are related to two ongoing cases at the Commission, one related to CMP’s Rates and Revenue Requirements and the other an investigation into metering and billing issues that was initiated in response to CMP customer complaints about high bills.

The public may comment on any aspect of these cases, but the major issues include rate levels, service quality, customer service, call-center performance, billing issues, high bill complaints, and allegations of incorrect dollar amounts or incorrect usage amounts on customer bills.

“We look forward to receiving public input on the significant issues raised in the CMP cases,” said Chairman Philip Bartlett, in a news release.  “We have received many public comments electronically in each case, but the public hearings will allow the Commissioners to receive input directly from Maine’s citizens and businesses.”

All three Commissioners will attend the hearings as will Commission staff and a transcriptionist.  In a public witness hearing, any member of the public may participate by providing sworn testimony or they may present argument without being sworn; however, only sworn testimony becomes evidence in the case.  Transcripts of the hearings will be publicly available in each case file (Docket No. 2018-00194 and 2019-00015) which may be accessed via the Commission’s Case Management System.
