Poem: Brownie Love

Mon, 06/11/2018 - 9:15am

    For Barbara

    Is this commotion of edibles

    only on Holy Earth

where saints have proclaimed their worth

    so easy to make

    with the proper, available ingredients

found both at Hannafords and Walmart

    for the good they do

    inexpensive

made with love by many farmers

    across our little globe

    cacao beans ground to perfection

    formed into 4 oz. bars

    President Butter from France

    the two ready to dance

but first two cups of Domino Sugar

four eggs at ready to be broken

    2 teaspoons of Trader Joe’s

    bourbon vanilla

    found in the tropics

¾ cup of our darling King Arthur

    precious red winter wheat

    never bleached

salt 1/2 teaspoon to just bring up the flavor

    and finally, Russian walnuts

from our friends, Julia and Vlad

now heat the oven at 325 degrees

    turn on the two lovers

    chocolate and butter

    watch them melt into

each other, taking care, spatula care

    that the two partners

    dance without burning

when melted add the other sums

in order listed, mix with care

pour into a buttered, floured 9x13 glass pan

cook 40 minutes when done remove from oven

let rest overnight, let the cook rest overnight.

Barbara, dear, I cannot predict the future

    so won’t try to

you are a kind person, working hard to understand

the will of your Goddess, God

anyway you know the taste of a good brownie

of which I have tried to make for you

    with Love, Kendall
