Peace and Justice Group of Waldo County to present on Korea

BELFAST — On Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 6 p.m. in the Belfast Library Abbott Room, the Peace and Justice Group of Waldo County will present a power point presentation on Korea to be given by Bruce Gagnon of Bath, Maine. He is a member of Veterans for Peace and the international organization, Global Network-Keep Space For Peace.

Mr Gagnon recently returned from Korea and he will share his observations about the situation there. He is skeptical of the U.S.warnings that North Korea is a military threat to America; rather he feels the US strategy is to hype the fear about North Korea as a way to get the American people to support massive military expenditures in order to continue the Pentagon 'pivot' of 60% of US military forces into the Asia-Pacific. The goal is to surround China and Russia with US military power in order to control and dominate them. In Hawaii, South Korea, Okinawa, Australia, Philippines, New Zealand and Guam local peace and environmental activists are protesting these US moves that require expanding bases in those countries.

These bases are destroying the environment and making the 'host' populations a prime target in a war as Trump boasts about 'fire and fury'. Under international law it is a crime against peace to threaten nuclear attack against another nation. Admission to the presentation is free. All are welcome.
