OWLS HEAD — Locals of all ages traveled through the world of Knox County Regional Airport, in Owls Head, Saturday, June 8.

Those who entered the terminal during the event were issued passport clearance to the agencies represented inside the building and on the tarmac.

A visit to each agency garnered a check mark to the passport, and in the process, travelers had the opportunity to learn about the entities involved.

The airport, which has been a department of Knox County since relinquishment by Rockland in 1968, has never had an open house, until Saturday.

From ground to air, machines of all types represented those operations that keep the airport humming on any given day.

Attendees touched wings and rubber, stood alongside the long air strip, ate snacks and enjoyed the sunshine while several youths among them taxied the runways with the Young Eagles flying group.

Closer to the earth, Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Explorers program joined a LifeFlight representative, Penobscot Island Air, Owls Head Transportation Museum, Packard Partners AvisBudget, and the maintenance crew in providing a closer look at their modes of transportation.
