Tue, 04/09/2019 - 10:45am

ROCKLAND — The founders and organizers of Rainbow Ball Weekend have transferred the planning and hosting of the weekend to OUT Maine.

For the Weekend, attendees need formal wear. Thanks to Maine Coast Weddings and Special Events and Krista Tolman, more than 40 dresses and some formal jackets have been acquired, but more are needed.

“Think of 200 youth,” said OUT, in the release.

The three-day weekend of educational and social programming for 200 Maine LGBTQ+ and allied high school students provides life changing experiences, according to Out. May’s Rainbow Ball Weekend builds community and connections, opens youth to a wider world of more acceptance and opportunity, and encourages educational aspirations.

Formal wear donations can be dropped off at 63 Park Street, in Rockland, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. They can also be mailed to PO Box 1723, Rockland, ME 04841.

The organization is accepting financial donations.

Donation options are available at outmaine.org/rainbowball, or by emailing OUT Maine at info@outmaine.org.

OUT Maine supports, educates and empowers rural LGBTQ youth by providing community safe spaces; changing school climate through education and building Gay/Straight/Trans Alliances (school clubs); building a strong provider safety net by training health and mental health providers, school staff, clergy and other youth service organizations; and supporting parents and families of these at-risk youth to keep youth safe in their homes.
