ROCKLAND – One female motorcycle driver was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center as a result of an accident involving a car and a motorcycle.

Traffic was tied up in both directions by 1:31 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, when Knox County Communications Center received the dispatch. Rockland police, fire, and EMS personnel were then summoned to the accident on Camden Street at the south entrance to Circle K.

Maryanne McLeod, age 51 and from Scotland, and her husband had been on a motorcycle trek across Maine when her motorcycle collided with a car driven by Richard Brewster, 82, of Rockland.

Brewster was in the northbound land, attempting to turn into Circle K when the collision occurred, according to Rockland Deputy Chief Chris Young. The police investigation was unable to determine why the collision happened.

McLeod was transported by ambulance to Pen Bay Medical Center where she remains in stable condition. Her husband was riding a separate motorcycle and was not hurt.

McLeod’s motorcycle and the four-door sedan were both damaged, and were hauled from the scene by Best Rate Towing.
