Oceanside baseball swings past Lincoln Academy

NEWCASTLE — The Oceanside varsity baseball team earned its third consecutive victory Monday, May 9 when the Mariners hit the road to Newcastle to challenge Lincoln Academy, and returned to Rockland with a 3-1 victory. 

Oceanside’s runs came late in the game with one run in the fifth inning and two in the seventh. The hosts, meanwhile, tallied its lone run of the contest in the second inning. 

Oceanside recorded six hits, committed one error and stranded eight runners on base.

Lincoln Academy tallied four hits, two errors and left three runners on base. 

Duncan Oakes-Nelsen tossed a complete game for Oceanside, surrendering one run, four hits, one walk and one hit-by-pitch while fanning nine batters. 

Working the pitcher’s mound for Lincoln Academy were Griffin Bond (5.1 innings, one earned run, three hits, nine strikeouts, five walks, one hit-by-pitch) and Myles Wotton (1.2 innings, two earned runs, three hits, one strikeout). 

Notable hits for Oceanside came via Connor Calderwood (single, double), Oakes-Nelsen (single) and Alex Bartlett (double). 

Wotton and Gamage recorded doubles for Lincoln Academy. 

Oceanside’s first run came when Calderwood roped a double that scored Alex Bartlett in the fifth. Bartlett’s own double drove in Austin Chilles before a single by Oakes-Nelsen plated Bartlett. 

The next contest for Oceanside (3-4 record) will be at home Thursday, May 12 against Mount View at 4 p.m.
