Oceanside baseball downed in season opener

READFIELD — The Oceanside varsity baseball team opened the season on the road Wednesday, April 17 against Maranacook at Kents Hill in Readfield. 

By the end of the game, the visiting Mariners suffered a 12-6 loss. 

Oceanside will now seek its first win of the season when they play their home opener Friday, April 19 against Erskine Academy at 1 p.m.

In the Wednesday contest, Oceanside plated two runs in the second inning and four runs in the sixth. Maranacook plated five runs in the first and second innings and two in the sixth. 

Oceanside collected six hits compared to Maranacook’s seven. Oceanside committed six errors compared to Marancook’s two. 

Repeat hitters for Maranacook included Wyatt Lambert (two singles, two runs), Duncan Rogers (triple, single, two runs, two RBIs) and Mitch Root (two singles, run).

The lone repeat hitter for Oceanside was Ben Ripley (three singles, two runs). 

On the mound for Marancook, Jay Lauter pitched four innings allowing one hit, two runs, three walks and fanned 11 batters.
