M/V ‘Lively Lady’ hosts excursion for Knox County Homeless Coalition families

CAMDEN — For the third year in a row, clients and friends of Knox County Homeless Coalition marveled at lobsters, star fish, and other wonders of Penobscot Bay on an excursion aboard the lobster boat M/V Lively Lady

The trip, donated by the boat's owners Captain Dominic and Liz Gioia, allowed local youth working with the Coalition the opportunity to see and experience first-hand the wildlife along Maine’s coast.

First Mate Kate Rich helped the passengers measure lobsters to see if they were keepers, passed around starfish, and pointed out the eggs on a female lobster. A client of the teen program The Landing Place had the opportunity to release a lobster back in the water.

For many of the passengers, it was their first time on a boat. One shelter client was particularly excited about capturing images that he could later paint. Participants saw seals, waterfowl and even spotted an eagle.

Stephanie Primm, director of the Knox County Coalition, said the lobster boat rides "have been absolute magic for our kiddos."
