MRC adds skating programs for ages three, four

ROCKPORT — The Midcoast Recreation Center has moved one step closer to their goal of providing community members of all ages with a class tailored to their needs and abilities. The MRC, in a press release, has announced they now proudly offer new classes for three- and four-year-olds.

The two new programs, “Learn to Skate Hockey for Tots” and “Snowplow SAM for Tots,” are centered on teaching kids three and four years of age how to move on the ice.

“Learn to Skate Hockey for Tots” is a fun program, perfect for any kid with lots of energy to burn, where the kids put on full hockey gear and get to play on the ice, according to the release. Meanwhile, “Snowplow SAM for Tots” is just as fun, though it does not require the hockey gear, and the kids get to focus more on learning the fundamentals of skating, the release noted.

Both programs run for 25 minutes with the release noting the shorter class time ensures participants enjoy their time on the ice without getting restless or bored.

In addition, both programs have a reduced class size, with space for only eight kids in each class.

“With smaller class sizes, the experience for the little ones is often less overwhelming than our full size programs, which can have up to 60 kids in each class,” said Jesse Simko, MRC’s Arena Director. “These are the perfect classes for skaters who need or want a slow start.”

Both programs will meet Monday mornings, with “Learn to Skate Hockey for Tots” running from 11 a.m. to 11:25 a.m. and “Snowplow SAM for Tots” from 11:25 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.

For the first “Learn to Skate Hockey class”, parents are asked to arrive 30 minutes early so that the kids can get fitted with hockey gear.
