WARREN — A Warren man was knocked unconscious by a falling tree as he drove along Route 131 (Eastern Road), Thursday, Oct. 18.

Strong midday winds caused a tree to suddenly break, crashing down onto the roof above the front-seat passenger compartment of the 1998 GMC truck driven southbound by Cameron Martin, 20, of Warren.

Knox County Sheriff's Office and emergency personnel dispatched to the scene at 12:30 p.m., according to a KCSO news release, October 19.

“The tree caused the roof to cave in and strike Martin in the head knocking him unconscious,” Deputy Chief Tim Carroll said in the release. “Cameron's truck then veered off the road directly into a nearby house. The house was heavily damaged.”

A witness to the crash called 9-1-1.

Martin had to be extricated from the truck and was transported to the Odd Fellows Hall in Warren by Warren Ambulance to be Life-Flighted to a hospital in Lewiston.

He was in critical condition at that time, according to Carroll.

Knox County Regional Communications Center coordinated the emergency response.
