ROCKLAND - The MidCoast Diaper Project plans to start dispensing diapers to local families March 11. Utilizing Area Interfaith Outreach Food Pantry (AIO), this group intends to provide diaper supplementation for those in need following the closure of an existing diaper supply organization. While the two organizations are completely separate, the goal remains the same and is focused on a true need in Knox County.

The Midcoast Diaper Project, founded by Sara Spencer, Diane List and Molly Staples, started planning their mission in December 2018. Accelerated by the uncertainty of federal paychecks this winter, have quickly created a system that will provide diapers and diapering supplies to those in need. While people do not need to apply or qualify, they will need to request diapers through their website (MidCoastDiaperProject.com) or in person at the AIO Food Pantry at 70 Thomaston Street in Rockland.

Diapers will be distributed through the AIO Food Pantry, on a scheduled basis, during normal AIO business hours. MDP’s goal is to create a sustainable program through which people can pick up their products consistently for as long as there is need.

Donations of disposable diapers, cloth diapers, creams, ointments and wipes are being accepted. Disposable diapers can be donated in partial packages. Creams, ointments and wipes need to be unopened. Both new and used cloth diapers are being accepted.

The MidCoast Diaper Project has drop boxes at the following locations:
