Medomak Valley baseball, softball cancel Saturday scrimmages

Thu, 04/04/2019 - 10:00am

WALDOBORO — Due to poor weather and poor field conditions, the Medomak Valley baseball and softball exhibition contests on Saturday, April 6 have been cancelled.

The varsity baseball team was set to scrimmage Messalonskee and Foxcroft Academy, while the varsity softball team was set to play a doubleheader against Messalonskee. The junior varsity softball team was set to play one contest against Messalonskee.

“[Wednesday] really put a hold to any progress the fields had made,” Medomak Valley athletic director Matt Lash said. “Today is not a drying day due to the cold. The infields have been too soft to turn them over.  This needs to happen before any real drying can take place. We just have not had those consecutive days of sun, wind, and [temperatures] close to 60 [degrees].”

Neither of the preseason contests will be rescheduled.

The varsity softball team will attempt to host Nokomis for an exhibition contest Tuesday, April 9 and travel to Oxford Hills on Thursday, April 11. Meanwhile, the baseball team will escape to Florida for a week of exhibition games.
