THOMASTON — The Oceanside and Medomak middle school boys soccer teams met on the pitch in Thomaston for an exhibition contest Wednesday, Sept. 18.

The game was competitive with neither team ever taking full control.

In fact, the contest was so competitive it ended in a 3-3 tie.

The scoring opened with Nevan Power finding the back of the net for the visiting Riverhawks to put Medomak up 1-0.

Oceanside responded with a goal of its own to knot the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.

In the second half, Medomak’s Slavick Moody scored a quick goal to start and then, according to Medomak coach Jackson Fortin, continued to give the Oceanside defense pressure.

Assisting Moody was Atticus Blue, Kolby Staples, Sebastian Smith and Zan Nyguen.

On defense for Medomak, Asa Appleby, Kayden Sidelinger and Connor Leach played tough and made it difficult for the Oceanside defense to get clean shots on net, Fortin said.

Issac Swain and Vishal Mellor also played physical defense often taking the ball back to give it to the offense, Fortin said.

Late in the half, Oceanside scored two goals to give them the lead.

In the final five minutes of the game, Moody made an excellent steal, according to Fortin, which then translated into a goal to tie the game at 3-3.

In goal Kael Sidelinger, Finn Kelly and Sebastian Smith combined for 18 saves.

Both teams will meet on the pitch again later this month on Thursday, Sept. 26 in Waldoboro.

In the meantime, Medomak will travel to Great Salt Bay on Monday, Sept. 23 and Oceanside will host Camden-Rockport on Friday, Sept. 20.
