Mary Joan Parra, obituary

APPLETON — Mary Joan Parra, 77, widow of Edward Parra, died on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Pen Bay Medical Center. Born in Rockland on April 24, 1941, she was the daughter of William M. and Dorothy (Gushee) MacIntosh. 

On March 28, 1982, she married Edward Parra in Camden at their home on Cross Street in Camden. In 1999, they moved to Appleton to take care of Joan’s aging mother.

Joan had been employed at Tibbett’s Industries in Camden for many years and also took care of children in her home. In addition, she supervised her own children as well as the other many neighborhood children living on Washington and Cross Streets during their childhood and teenage years.   

Her grandchildren were her pride and joy as well as her collection of dolls.

Predeceased by her husband, Edward Parra in 2016 and her daughter Marie Simmons in 2018; surviving are five children and sixteen grandchildren, Bonnie Capps and her husband, Chris, of California, and their children Sunshine, Tiffany, and Justin; Marie’s children Christina, Robert and Philip; William Lemar of Maine, and his children Stephanie and Randy; Wanda Tolman and her husband, Tim, of Idaho and her children John, Nicholas Dominic and Angel; Brian Lemar and his wife, Danielle, of Searsmont and his children Charlotte and Elizabeth and their children, Brian, Jr. and Landon; Thomas Parra and his wife, Stacey, of Lincolnville and their son Wyatt; brother, Daniel MacIntosh of California; sister Linda MacIntosh of Damariscotta and many great grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be held in Youngtown Cemetery in Lincolnville.
