Marshall Point Lighthouse rebuilds historical legacy

Mon, 09/17/2018 - 8:30am
The Marshall Point Lighthouse and Museum Board of Directors broke ground for the replica of the Keeper’s Barn and Workshop on Wednesday, September 12, following a year-long fundraising campaign.

“We are just $8,000 short of our $150,000 goal,” said Museum Director Nat Lyon, in a news release.

Preliminary site preparation begins this month. Gill Timber Frame will be constructing the barn, using techniques and materials that mirror the original barn, built around 1900. The new barn will occupy the same location as its predecessor, which the Coast Guard removed in 1971.

The Marshall Point Lighthouse Museum and gift shop will continue to be open until Columbus Day, Oct. 8: Sunday - Tues. 12 - 4 p.m., Wed. - Sat. 10 a.m. - 4  p.m.

The grounds are open from sunrise to sunset daily.

To help reach the museum’s fundraising $150,000 goal, donations can be sent to MPLH, P.O. Box 247, Port Clyde, Maine 04855, and specify the barn project; or via Paypal at marshallpoint.org. Go to the barn page to donate.
