Marsh River Theater musical ‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’
BROOKS — The Marsh River Theater is closing its 21st season with the musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee October 19, 20, 26, and 27, at 7:30 p.m..
Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor, according to a news release. This book by Rachel Sheinkin is fast-paced, wildly funny and touching, and has a fresh and vibrant score by William Finn.
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves!
At least the losers get a juice box.
Directed by Mike Switzer and Staring Amanda Stover, Elena Donovan, Bryan Spalding, Melissa McDonald, Larry Wyman, Sean Cash, Monica Nelson and Ethan Suderley.
Tickets are $12 for Adults; $10 for Seniors and Students.
