Marking progress at Thomaston Public Library

Wed, 05/01/2019 - 12:45pm

Thomaston Public Library has gone live with its transition to a new circulation system called MILS. This will give our patrons and those of other libraries the ability to search and request materials from our library and Interlibrary Loans from other libraries in a more independent and seamless process.

We have completed the reorganization of library rooms and offer a Quiet Room containing our fiction collection on the same level as our Main Reading Room now.

The Children’s Room has been moved to the lower level with generous activity space.

The new library Conference Room located on the upper floor has been used for meetings, tutoring and school vacation programming and is available to be reserved for functions of nonprofit organizations and for a small fee for other organizations.

We have completed hiring staff for the 6th year of our 40 Days of Summer Program and look with enthusiasm to great programming including visits from Sparks Ark, Chewonki Foundation, our local beekeepers, rocket launchers and STEM experiments to name only a few.

We are working on a small face-lift for our entrance.

The third Friday of each month is Communi-TEA.

The second Monday of each month is Pizza and Family Movie Night and each Friday evening offers Classic films.

We have been fortunate to receive support from Maine Humanities Council for both our ongoing Let’s Talk About It book club (meets the second Tuesday at 11 a.m.) and a World in Your Library which supports a guest speaker: Anne Gass on June 3.

On the first Thursday our new Mystery Book Club meets at 11 a.m., and our venerated Intergenerational Book Club meets each third Tuesday at 2.30 p.m.

We will be hosting the documentary film Resilience on May 20, at 5 p.m., and invite all to save the date.

We appreciate the support and patience of our patrons and visitors and look with delight at serving them and welcoming new  friends to our great library.
