BELFAST — A Portland man was tased twice and arrested Oct. 8, after Belfast Police responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex on Ryan Road.

Michael Meteer, 36, was arrested and charged with burglary, terrorizing, and refusing to submit to arrest or detention as a result of the incident, which took place around 5:30 p.m.

Sergeant Matthew Cook responded to the scene, where a man was reportedly banging on an apartment door, attempting to gain entry, according to Chief Michael McFadden.

Upon arrival Cook was met by Meteer, who had by then kicked in the front door of the apartment, police said.

Meteer was exiting the apartment in question when police arrived. He was holding a kitchen chair and walking toward Cook, who ordered him to drop the chair, police said. Meteer then threw the chair, striking a vehicle parked nearby, and then charged at Cook, police said.

Cook ordered Meteer to stop multiple times and deployed his taser when he failed to comply, police said. Though compliant for the first cycle of the taser, McFadden said that once the electric current stopped Meteer tried to stand and engage Cook again, at which point a second cycle was administered.

Several hypodermic needles were discovered in Meteer’s pants during a pat down, including one with the needle broken off, police said. After conducting a search to ensure the missing needle wasn’t embedded in his clothing or skin, Meteer was transported to Waldo County General Hospital for examination, police said. He was then booked into jail.
