BELFAST — A Stratton man was indicted on charges of attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault and violating conditions of release by a Waldo County Grand Jury March 15, after allegedly stabbing a homeowner.

Jetton R. Whiting, 25, was staying with the homeowner at a Belmont residence Jan. 4, the night of the incident, due to severe winter weather at the time of the assault, according to court documents.

The crime was reported after a female friend stopped by the home Jan. 5 in order to check the man’s well being; she discovered him seriously wounded.

Court documents said the victim told the woman he had been stabbed multiple times by Whiting the night before and requested the woman call 9-1-1, which she did.

The victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment while law enforcement searched for Whiting, who had fled the residence after the stabbing.

A search of the residence resulted in the discovery of the knife described in the incident. The victim’s cut and bloodied clothing was also recovered.

Whiting was located during the early morning hours of Jan. 6, arrested and taken into custody without incident.

Bail was set at $250,000 with conditions including he not contact his victim, not possess any dangerous weapons, including firearms and knives, and to refrain from using alcohol or illegal drugs.

Whiting’s arraignment is scheduled for March 27, at 8:30 a.m.
