UNITY — A Unity man was arrested and charged with alleged gross sexual assault Nov. 7, following incriminating statements made to a 9-1-1 operator.

Robert McKinney Jr., 23, initiated contact with police when he called Waldo County Dispatch, according to Belfast Police Detective Sergeant Matthew Cook.

After Maine State Police arrived at the scene they transported McKinney Jr. to Waldo County General Hospital for a mental evaluation. Detective Sergeant Cook was notified of the situation and traveled to the hospital to interview McKinney, who reportedly admitted to sexual contact with at least one 13-year-old girl.

Cook said the investigation is ongoing and they are looking into whether there are other victims.

“We’re looking at possibly other charges but those have not been investigated thoroughly enough at this point; we’re still working on it,” he said.
