Maine McDonald’s seeks high school basketball Spirit of the Game Award nominations

LEWISTON — Organizers of the Maine McDonald's High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games presented by Bangor Savings Bank have opened nominations for the annual Maine McDonald’s® Spirit of the Game Award. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Feb. 2. Nominations can be completed online at vote.mainemcdonaldsbasketball.org

The Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game Award honors two high school basketball team members who embody the spirit of the sport, exemplify sportsmanship, support and inspire their teammates and coaching staff, and show an ability to overcome obstacles and boundaries. The awards are named in honor of 2009 recipients and varsity team managers Patrick Thibodeau of Cumberland and the late Josh Titus of Auburn. Thibodeau has Down Syndrome, and Titus overcame the challenges of autism. 

Coaches, parents, principals, community organizations, athletic directors and sports fans are encouraged to submit a nomination. Paper nomination forms can be requested by calling Kevin Gove at 755-9470 or emailing keving@rinckadvertising.com. Online nominations must be completed by 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 2.

The Spirit of the Game Award winners will be announced at the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Awards Banquet in Bangor on March 9. The 2018 Maine McDonald's High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games presented by Bangor Savings Bank will be played on March 10 at Husson University in Bangor.

The game-day program will feature competition between top senior players in the state's AA/A/B and C/D Boys and Girls divisions, the state foul shooting championships, girls Three-point Shootout Contest and boys Dr Pepper Slam Dunk Contest.

Net proceeds from the All-Star weekend benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Maine. RMHC of Maine is a non-profit organization whose goal is to help Maine children and families lead happier, healthier and more productive lives. Since its founding in 1989, RMHC of Maine has granted more than $3.1 million to local children’s programs that make a measurable impact in our communities.
