Lovejoy, Curtis boost Belfast wrestling to 10th place finish

RUMFORD — The Belfast wrestling team hit the road Saturday, Dec. 15 to participate in the Franklin Savings Bank Classic hosted by Mountain Valley in Rumford. 

As a team, the Lions finished in 10th place with a score of 30 points. 

Individually, Jonah Lovejoy earned third in the 138 pound division, while Patrick Curtis secured second in the 152 pound division. 

Below are the individual results with Belfast wrestlers listed first. 

106 pounds: Connor Fournier pinned by Jake Emond (Erskine) and Matthew Kennard (Madison). 

120 pounds: Timmy Smith defeated by Matt Myles (Mountain Valley) and pinned by Rico Ayala (Foxcroft). 

138 pounds: Jonah Lovejoy pinned Caleb Johnson (Oxford Hills), pinned by Caden Kowalsky (Mount Ararat/Brunswick), pinned Eddie Plessinger (Fryeburg), earned majority decision win over Caleb Johnson (Oxford Hills). 

145 pounds: Chris Fournier lost via technical fall to Jacob Diamond (Foxcroft) and pinned by David Pelletier (Dirigo). 

152 pounds: Patrick Curtis pinned Devin Chase (Wells), pinned Dillon Worster (Oxford Hills) and pinned by Ben Lawrence (Mount Ararat/Brunswick). 

170 pounds: Nathaniel Porter pinned by Hunter Robichaud (Bucksport) and defeated by Nick Taylor (Ellsworth).

182 pounds: Jason Norwood pinned Chase Nelson (Dirigo), pinned by Cam Bourget (Lisbon/Oak Hall) and pinned by Nathan Curtis (Wells). 

285 pounds: Gage Newcomb pinned by Anthony Sanborn (Erskine), pinned Braeden MacNeil (Wells) and pinned by Archill Shonia (York/Traip).
