Leola M. Vinal, obituary

ROCKLAND —Leola M. Vinal, 87, died Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at the Sussman House in Rockport following an extended period of declining health. Born in Rockport, June 21, 1931, she was one of 13 children born to Donald E. and Esther Watts Tolman.

Educated in Rockport schools, Leola attended Rockport High School.

She married William Vinal, Jr. on September 18, 1948. The couple made their home in Rockland until moving to Portland.

In 1966, Leola began employment in the housekeeping department at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Throughout the years with Maine Medical Center, Leola pursued various business courses at the University of Maine and Andover Business College, which supported her in obtaining the position of supervisor until her retirement in 1985.

Leola and William later built their retirement home in East Union, where they lived out the rest of their 63 years of marriage until Williams passing in 2011.

Other than her parents, Leola was predeceased by her husband William L. Vinal Jr. in 2011; her daughter, Joyce Esther Vinal in 1949; one brother Harold Tolman; two sisters Barbara Widdecombe and Gloria Keadle.

She is survived by one son George A. Vinal and his wife Shelly of South Burlington, VT; her brothers, Alfred Tolman of Hope, Ernest Tolman of Vista, California, Lloyd Tolman of Gulfport, Mississippi, Paul Tolman of Appleton, and Richard Tolman of Thomaston; sisters, Maxine King of Rockland, Mildred Wiley of Owls Head, A. Betty Paulsen of Thomaston, Geraldine Barker of Detroit Lakes, MN; grandchildren, Kourtney and Kassie Vinal; two great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as friends that she held so dear to her heart.

Private burial arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, Maine.
