ROCKPORT — Though the high school wrestling season is over, the accolades continue to pour in for one local wrestler.

Camden Hills senior wrestler Noah Lang was Maine’s 2019 Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award recipient.

The award is presented by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, who selects a wrestler from each state based on their wrestling and academic achievements, in addition to their community involvement.

The award was established in 1996 to honor Olympic and World champion Dave Schultz, whose career was cut short when he was murdered in January 1996, according to a press release.

“The Class of 2019 state and regional winners of our Dave Schultz High School Excellence award represent an outstanding group of students, athletes and citizens who are prepared to have a positive impact on our sport and society in the years to come,” said Hall of Fame Executive Director Lee Roy Smith.

Lang finished his high school career as a two-time state champion and placed at the state tournament each of his four varsity seasons.

This season, he placed fourth at the New England regional tournament.

During his career as a Windjammer wrestler, he recorded the most wins of any Camden Hills wrestler with 210 wins and recorded the most pins ever at 134.

Lang was also selected as an alternate All-American by Wrestling Magazine USA and will appear in the upcoming issue.

Lang will continue his wrestling career as a member of the University of Maine club wrestling program.
