Knox County Sheriff’s deputies, along with municipal law enforcement, will be conducting public safety checkpoints, or roadblocks, throughout the county for the remainder of the year, according to a July 3 news release from the sheriff’s office.

“Checkpoints serve several purposes such as detecting impaired drivers, getting unsafe motor vehicles off the roadway, ensuring passengers are complying occupant safety laws and limiting the public’s access to unsafe areas,” the release said.

“We will be conducting checkpoints at varying times and locations throughout Knox County, often times with no notice other than this informational release, to safeguard you and your families from risky drivers and incidents,” the release said.

“Please double check that your vehicle is properly registered, inspected, and insured. Ensure that you and your passengers are secured properly. Do not engage in distracted driving behaviors such as text messaging. Finally, watch your speed and pay attention to your surroundings.

“If you have questions or concerns about what ‘right’ looks like, feel free to contact the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and a Deputy will be more than happy to point you in the right direction. Be safe and enjoy your summer responsibly!”
