Knox County Criminal Docket, closed cases

    ROCKLAND — The following cases were closed in Knox County Unified Court from Dec. 3-7.

    Frank Carozza, 42, of Camden, failure to register vehicle in Rockport Oct. 31, $100 fine.

    Christopher F. Cummings, 49, of Rockland, operating under the influence (alcohol), one prior, dismissed; unlawful possession of scheduled drug in Rockland Aug. 17, $400 fine, 364 days in jail with all but 30 days suspended, probation one year; driving to endanger in Rockland Aug. 17, $575 fine, 364 days in jail with all but seven days suspended, license suspended 30 days.

    Cameron A. Dana, 22, of Owls Head, criminal trespass in South Thomaston Oct. 11, six months in jail; theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, priors, three years in jail with all but twelve months suspended, probation two years, restitution $10, 142.87; theft by unauthorized use of property, priors, 12 months in jail; burglary of a motor vehicle, 12 months in jail. All incidents occurred in Rockland Oct. 4; theft by unauthorized use of property, priors, three years in jail with all but 12 months suspended, probation two years, restitution $10, 1423.87; burglary of a motor vehicle, six months in jail; failing to stop, provide information, six months in jail; failing to make oral or written accident report, six months in jail; burglary of a motor vehicle, six months in jail; violating condition of release, six months in jail. All incidents occurred in South Thomaston Oct. 11.

    Dana was arrested by police Oct. 31 after stealing two motor vehicles in one week and also crashing one of them. He was on a bail release for a prior charge of stealing another vehicle.

    According to an affidavit filed by the Knox County Sheriff's Office, police received a report Oct. 11 from a resident in South Thomaston that someone had tried to break into his horse stable.

    Police then received another report that a van had crashed into a tree on Spruce Head Road in South Thomaston.

    Witnesses reported to police that a man had fled on foot and appeared intoxicated. The homeowner at the earlier call also reported that it was a young man who had fled from his property.

    A witness at the scene told police that the man who fled was Dana.

    Police determined that the van was stolen.

    Pomphile A. Fontaine, 34, of Hope, probation violations for original convictions of domestic violence assault, priors in Hope May 7, 2017, 30 days in jail, probation partially revoked, probation continued; tampering with witness, informant, juror or victim in Hope May 8, nine months in jail, probation partially revoked, probation continued.

    Mark Gagne, 36, of Friendship, criminal attempt in Rockland Aug. 8, 45 days in jail; domestic violence criminal threatening, priors, dismissed; unlawful possession of scheduled drug, dismissed; refusing to submit to arrest or detention, physical force, dismissed.

    Jared E. Hansen, 40, of St. George, eluding an officer, two years in jail with all but 60 days suspended, probation two years, license suspended 30 days; driving to endanger, $575 fine; operating while license suspended or revoked, $500 fine. All incidents occurred in Rockland March 24; operating under the influence (alcohol)-no test, $600 fine, four days in jail, license suspended 150 days; violating condition of release, four days in jail; failing to notify of motor vehicle accident, four days in jail; failing to make oral or written accident report, four days in jail. All incidents occurred in South Thomaston Nov. 18.

    Lynn M. Libby, 54, of Rockland, unlawful possession of scheduled drug in Rockland July 9, $400 fine, 364 days in prison.

    Steven C. Libby, 50, of Warren, violating condition of release, dismissed; tampering with a witness, informant, juror or victim, dismissed; aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs, aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, two counts in Rockland Feb. 28 and March 1, delayed sentencing until May 2019. Libby was released on his own personal recognizance and was ordered by the court to complete the Salvation Army program that he is currently enrolled in.

    The aggravated charge is due to a prior drug conviction, according to the Maine State Police.

    Libby was arrested following a two-month investigation. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said five members of the same family have been arrested for importing and selling fentanyl in the Mid Coast.

    Agents from the MDEA Mid Coast District Task Force, with assistance from the Knox and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Offices, and Rockland and Maine State Police, had been investigating a family selling the drug in Knox County, according to a news release from the Maine State Police.

    During the investigation, agents learned family members were traveling to New Bedford, Massachusetts, several times a week to purchase fentanyl, which they would resell in Knox and Lincoln counties, said the  State Police.

    Chayse MacDonald, 22, of North Haven, operating while license suspended or revoked in Thomaston Aug. 23, $500 fine.

    Corey J. Peters, 42, of Rockland, operating after habitual offender revocation, dismissed.

    Eliza J. Rainville, 25, of Rockland, unlawful possession of scheduled drug in Rockland Feb. 22, $400 fine, 180 days in jail with all but two days suspended, probation one year.

    Duwaun Ward, 21, of Portsmouth, Va., refusing to submit to arrest or detention, physical force, dismissed; operating under the influence (drugs or combination) in Thomaston Nov. 8, $500 fine, license suspended 150 days.

    Jane M. Young, 28, of Cushing, trafficking in prison contraband in Warren March 31, 2017, three years in jail with all but 45 days suspended, probation two years.
