Kids eat free this summer in Warren, Lincoln County

Sat, 06/01/2019 - 10:30am

DAMARISCOTTA — Several local organizations are coming together to provide kids and teens with free, healthy meals throughout the summer through the USDA funded Summer Food Service Program.

The program is open to all children ages 18 and under, no questions asked, and no registration required. While many sites offer programming, kids do not need to be enrolled in programs in order to receive meals. Healthy Lincoln County sponsors the participating organizations, and all together they serve between 10,000-12,000 meals each summer.

“This summer, in addition to our returning meal sites, we are making plans for our first ever mobile summer meals unit, something like a free food truck for kids that comes to their neighborhood,” said Kate Martin, director of Healthy Lincoln County, in a news release. “We’re very excited, and there is more to come on that soon.”

Meals will be provided at the following sites, and more sites will be added soon (in alphabetical order by town):

- Boothbay- Clifford Playground

- Boothbay- Camp Knickerbocker

- Boothbay Region YMCA

- Damariscotta- CLC YMCA

- Jefferson Scoop Ice Cream

- Waldoboro- Miller School

- Waldoboro- Medomak Valley High School

- Waldoboro Public Library

- Warren Community School/ACES program

- Washington- Prescott Memorial School

- Wiscasset Community Recreation Center

The full schedule will be posted soon on the Lincoln County Summer Meals Facebook page, and more information is available by calling 563-1330, or at www.healthylincolncounty.org. The schedule is subject to change.
