Julian Abaldo excels at NCAA Division III national swimming championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Former Camden Hills swimmer Julian Abaldo competed in the NCAA Division III national swimming and diving championships as a member of the Bowdoin College men’s swim team March 20-23 in Greensboro, North Carolina. 

Abaldo, who graduated from Camden Hills in 2016, spent time swimming for the Pen Bay Sailfish, Pen Bay Sailfish USA and the Camden Hills team. 

At the national meet, the junior raced in the 200-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard freestyle relay, 800-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay. In the 400 and 800  events, he earned all-american honorable mention accolades. 

The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Karl Sarier, Ted Mebust, Abaldo, and Andrew MacDonald finished 13th with a time of 3:02.34. 

The men’s 800-yard freestyle relay team of Sarier, MacDonald, Mebust and Abaldo finished 14th with a time of 6:47.99. 

As a team, the Bowdoin men finished 19th in the nation with 38 points and the women finished 12th with 112 points. Five men and four women participated in the meet for Bowdoin.
