PORT CLYDE — Jeffrey A. ‘Yorkie’ York, 58, died unexpectedly, just a few short hours after arriving at the hospital, Wednesday, January 2, 2019. His son Keith, Keith’s girlfriend Alicia and their son Levi were at his side.

Born in Rockland, October 4, 1960, he was the son of Keith W. and Pauline Keizer York. Raised in Warren until he was 12 years old, he had many childhood friends. On the 4th of July in 1972, he moved with this family to Port Clyde where he has since resided.

When Jeffrey was just 10 years old, his father passed away on October 31, 1970. Later he had many happy years with his step-father John Lantz, Jr. Mr. Lantz passed away on July 16, 2015.

After graduating from high school, Jeffrey lobstered with Bert Witham for nearly 20 years. Later after purchasing his own boat, he hauled on his own up until the day he passed away. When not lobstering, he kept busy working on his ‘fixer-up house’ even building an addition on his own. He also spent many enjoyable days on Mosquito Island helping Victor Cole with his care taking responsibilities.

When his son Keith was young, the pair enjoyed many camping and fishing trips in Brooks. One of his favorite pastimes was riding his Harley Davidson motor cycle, which he enjoyed for 22 years. Although he hated to have his own photo taken, his mother remembers he always had a camera in his hand, taking many beautiful pictures of his surroundings and family.

He was a family man at heart and visited his 100 year old grandmother whenever he could. He never missed the opportunity to tease his niece, Des who affectionately coined the nick name ‘Feffy’ which quickly caught on with other friends. He had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his chocolate lab ‘Lady’. After ‘Lady’ died this past year, he took up walking with his son’s dog, ‘Nova’.

Most recently, a bright spot in Jeffrey’s life was his new grandson, Levi, just eight weeks old.

Jeffrey is survived by his son Keith Nelson York and his girlfriend Alicia and their son Levi Ezra; his mother Pauline Lantz; brother Brian K. York and his girlfriend Jeanne Andreasen and Brian’s daughter Desirea and her boyfriend Kurt Olesch and Jeanne’s son Jack Fifield, all of Port Clyde; his sister Kimberly Lantz Moore and her husband Brian and their children Hannah and Zachary, all of Durham; his step-sister Pamela Uhing and her husband Jeffrey and their children Linda and Joshua Kresnak, all of Iron Ridge, WI; his grandmother Beatrice Keizer of Thomaston; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Ward York; his paternal grandmother Gertrude Tierney; his maternal grandfather Clayton Keizer, Sr.; a cousin Darren Keizer; and an uncle David L. Keizer. He will be sadly missed by his loving family, and many friends, including Langdon Wilson and Victor Cole, and many more community members.

A celebration of Jeffrey’s life will be held at a later date with a burial announced in the spring.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
