BELFAST — Sherry Johnson, 60, the grandmother of Maddox Williams, has been sentenced to three years six months in prison with all suspended as a result of her efforts to conceal her daughter’s whereabouts following the child’s death.

Johnson pleaded guilty in Waldo County Superior Court Monday, Feb. 6, to one count of hindering apprehension or prosecution.

Johnson accompanied her daughter Jessica Williams (also known by the surnames Trefethen and Johnson) to the hospital the day three-year-old Maddox died, following his beating-related death June 20, 2021.

A medical examiner later determined Maddox died due to blunt force trauma injuries.

The two women left the hospital after doctors were unable to resuscitate Maddox, with Johnson originally telling police she had dropped her daughter off at a pier in Searsport following their exit from the hospital.

She continued to lie and mislead police about her daughter’s whereabouts for over a week, until Jessica Williams was ultimately apprehended at her mother’s home June 28, according to court documents.

Jessica Williams was found guilty of murdering her son by a jury of her peers following an October trial. She was sentenced to serve 47 years in prison in December for the murder of her young son.
