Good Samaritans pull man from Camden Harbor

CAMDEN — A man in his 60s was hauled from the water in front of the Camden Harbor Master’s office, Jan. 8, by three Good Samaritans, who were working across at a job site near the head of the harbor.

The man was apparently yelling for help after being in the water for a period of time, while holding onto an old firehose that wraps around a float.

Three Prock Marine workers heard the man’s cries, hopped into a skiff, and came to his aid. They pulled him into the boat and to shore, and then took him to the office of schooner captain Aaron Lincoln, who got him dried out. North East Mobile Health Services responded and transported the man to Pen Bay Medical Center, in Rockport.

Why the man was down on the float, which is hard to access in the winter, remains unclear; however the same individual had reportedly been in the lobby of the Public Safety Building last weekend, cold and calling on the public phone for an ambulance for transport to Pen Bay Medical Center.

The weather conditions Jan. 8 presented overcast skies, light rain and temperatures in the low 30s.
