Extension Chords take first place at MAMM Slam

    The Extension Chords, of Camden Hills Regional High School, took first place in Portland this past weekend at the 2019 MAMM Slam. The Extension Chords are Katherine Bowen, playing bass; Myles Kelley, keyboards; and Owen Markowitz, drums. All are CHRHS students, in Rockport.
     

    The MAMM (Maine Academy of Modern Music) Slam is a statewide competition designed to provide young, career-minded musicians with an educational platform through which to gain performance and business experience, professional acumen, industry exposure, and promotional and career networking opportunities.

    Their prize package included $1,000 cash sponsored by Maine Life Real Estate Co., free recording time at the Maine College of Art, a chance to open for Muddy Ruckus at Port City Music Hall courtesy of The State Theatre, a tour of Gateway Mastering, and more.

    Professionals in the local club, radio, print media and recording studio industries served as judges for the competition.

    The MAMM SLAM is sponsored by Coffee By Design, State Theatre, Maine College of Art, Gateway Mastering, Maine Life Real Estate Co, The Law Offices of Joe Bornstein, with the support of WCYY and WBLM.

    Individual awards went to:

    Best Guitarist: Nakoa Parsons
    Best Drummer: Owen Markowitz
    Best Bassist: Katherine Bowen
    Best Keyboardist: Myles Kelley
    Best Male Vocalist: Nathan Fletcher
    Best Female Vocalist: Josie Colton

    Judges were Atiim Boykin Chenzira of Portland OvationsTom CoutureNick Johnson of Prism AnalogSean SlaughterJason Ward of Rustic Overtones and Janay Woodruff.
