ROCKLAND – Edna May Eaton, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Bangor, November 25, 1922, she was the daughter of Fredrick C. and Mildred P. Wilson Gerow.

At age one Edna moved with her grandmother, Alice B. Wilson to her home in Presque Isle. Edna lived here until her grandmothers passing in 1939. She then relocated to Rockland, where she worked at The Bell Shop until its closing in 1967.

Edna moved on to work at several establishments over the next 20 years including five years with Atlantic Sportswear in Rockland, Van Balens and later 13 years with Nautica.  

Later in life Edna remained active, working for many years as a cashier at the Rockland J.C. Penney.

For many years Edna was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Rockland.  

Other than her parents, Edna was predeceased by her husband Rupert “Ray” Eaton; two loving daughters Patricia A. Brown, in June 1981 and Charlene Dodge; her son Arthur H. Thomas in September 1998; three sisters, Rosanna Gerow, Mildred Sibold, Alice B. Colson; and her brother George Gerow.

She survived by her daughter Gail Fearing and companion Alan Simmons; five grandchildren, Mindy Powell, David Bates, Ronald Brown, Eric Brown, Stephanie Dodge, Michael Dodge; many great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 12 to 1 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2019 at Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m.

Interment will be held in the Spring. The Reverend Stephen Tracy will officiate.
