Driver flees scene of single-occupant car crash in South Thomaston

    SOUTH THOMASTON — An investigation is under way by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office following a single-vehicle car crash in South Thomaston, early Wednesday morning, Oct. 11. The single occupant of the vehicle crashed into a tree on the Spruce Head Road, and, according to bystander reports, ran from the scene.

    According to a report by the KCSO, deputies had already been called to South Thomaston, at approximately 1:30 a.m., in regards to a male acting suspicious around residences along Elm Street.

    While responding to the area, deputies learned of a vehicle crash on Spruce Head Road, thereby diverting to the area of 577 Spruce Head Road, according to the report.

    Upon arrival, deputies found a blue Ford van crashed into a tree. Several bystanders told Deputies that a male got out of the vehicle and ran down the roadway.

    Deputies began a search, with a Police K9, that lasted several hours, but the male was not able to be located.

    The incident is under investigation with Dep. Alicia Averill as the lead investigator.

    Agencies assisting are Knox Regional Communications Center, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, South Thomaston Fire Department, South Thomaston Rescue, and Thomaston Police Department.
