BELFAST — The University of Maine Educational Leadership Program now offers an education specialist (Ed. S.) degree for students seeking a specialist certificate beyond the master’s level.

The three-year, 33-credit Ed. S. is a terminal degree program that allows educators to apply to the Maine Department of Education for certification in a variety of district-level leadership positions, including superintendent, curriculum coordinator and other director-level positions, according to the UMaine Hutchinson Center.

The Ed. S. in District Leadership Development Program is cohort-based, focusing on workforce development through hands-on experience.

The program will use a web-based platform to deliver coursework, typically one night a week from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., with two to three live Saturday meetings each semester at the Hutchinson Center and throughout Maine to help develop future leaders to serve the state’s educational systems.

UMaine’s educational leadership faculty combines an innovative approach to problem-solving with deep experience, and knowledge of the issues and challenges facing Maine’s PK–12 schools.

For more information, prospective students can contact Paul Knowles, paul.d.knowles@maine.edu.

Applications must be received no later than June 1, 2019.
