CASTINE — Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball picked up an 84-61 victory over Lyndon State College on Saturday, Feb. 10 in North Atlantic Conference action inside of Smith Gymnasium.

With the win the Mariners improve to 5-18 on the season and 4-12 in the conference, while the Hornets drop to 2-20 overall and 2-14 in the NAC. Maine Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 14 when they host Thomas College at 7:30 pm for Senior Night.

With Friday’s victory over Johnson State, this is the first back-to-back conference victories for the Mariners since the 2012-13 season when they defeated Husson and Green Mountain. The conference sweep of Lyndon is the first by the Mariners since the 2010-11 season when they swept Green Mountain. This is also the first conference weekend sweep for the team since the 2007-08 season when they defeated a pair of NAC opponents in back-to-back days (Lesley and Wheelock College).

The Mariners jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Hornets got on the board with a three.

Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) and Andrew Liebert (Plano, Texas) hit baskets and Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) drained a three to give the Mariners a 12-3 lead.

Lyndon put together a 12-2 run on four three-pointers from Zach Knowlton to take a momentary 15-14 lead but the Mariners retook the lead on a layup by Nick Judge (Cushing, Maine).

Lyndon tied the game up twice, but the Mariners began to pull away and took a 42-29 lead into halftime.

Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) led Maine Maritime with 11 points in the first half, while Knowlton led the Hornets with 18 points, all on three-pointers.

Maine Maritime scored 11-unanswered points early in the second half to build a considerable lead and cruised to the victory.

Richardson led the Mariners with 24 points, five assists, four rebounds and a steal, DePatsy added 17 points, including five three-pointers, a team-high eight rebounds, six assists and two steals and Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) contributed 12 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds.

Knowlton led the Hornets with 21 points, on seven three-pointers, and also added two rebounds and an assist, while Ricky Shuford added 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal.

The Mariners shot 55.0 percent from the floor, the highest all season, while Lyndon shot 32.9 percent. The Hornets held a 45-35 edge in rebounds.
