BELFAST — A tentative court timeline has been established for the Benton man accused in the Oct. 5 shooting deaths of his sister and brother-in-law.

Glenn Brown, 66, was charged with two counts of intentional or knowing murder in connection with the Oct. 5 shooting deaths of his sister and brother-in-law. Tina and Richard Bowden, both 64, each died after allegedly being shot with a Taurus 9 mm PT709 handgun.

Following the shootings, Brown drove himself to the Belfast Police Department and reportedly told officers he had shot two people, according to an affidavit filed by Maine State Police Detective Scott Duff.

When police later attempted to interview Brown he ultimately requested a lawyer and the interview was stopped.

Brown was scheduled to undergo a competency examination in November, though it is unclear whether that exam has been completed.

A scheduling order for the anticipated trial was set by Justice Robert Murray Dec. 8. Any expert witnesses the defense intends to use during the trial must be designated no later than Feb. 26. The State is also required to designate any experts by Feb. 26, though experts relating to issues of competency can be designated by the prosecution until March 26, according to the order.

The order further states that any motions, excluding trial-related motions in limine must be filed by April 30, for both the prosecution and defense.

According to the American Bar Association, “a proper motion in limine is an evidentiary motion that seeks a determination as to whether to exclude (or admit) evidence before it is offered at trial.”

A status conference regarding future proceedings is scheduled for June 10.
