Spring play to show for one weekend only

CHRHS to stage Neil Simon’s ‘Rumors’

    ROCKPORT- The Camden Hills Regional High School Spring Play, Rumors, opens May 2 and features a cast of five couples, dinner, a farcical comedy, and support from a creative technical crew who also serve dinner.  

    The play, a comedy in two acts, was written in 1988 by Neil Simon (well-known playwright who also wrote Barefoot in the Park, The Odd Couple, and The Goodbye Girl).  The story begins as four couples gather to celebrate the 10th wedding anniversary of Charlie and Myra Brock.  Suddenly, things begin to go very wrong – and cover-ups and misunderstandings ensue, not to mention a few rumors tossed into the mix.

    On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night (May 2 – 4) at 6 p.m., audience members will be treated to dinner and a show.  The dinner (prepared by Susan Boivin) features canapes, salad, a choice of ham with asparagus or pasta primavera, and dessert.  Tickets for the dinner show are $22 each and reservations must be received in advance, to make reservations please call (207) 236-7800 ext 3295 or email kim.murphy@fivetowns.net

    For theater-goers who would like a show without a meal, there will be one matinee performance on Saturday, May 4 at 2 p.m.  Tickets for the matinee performance are $10 per person with a special $5 rate for CHRHS students.  Matinee-only tickets do not require a reservation.

    The CHRHS cast of Rumors features (in order of appearance) Isabelle Olson and Sol Caponigro (Chris and Ken Gorman), Sydney Lytton and Jan Low (Claire and Lenny Ganz), Annabel Parker and Ruben Feldman (Cookie and Ernie Cusack), Tatum Dowd and Sam Maltese (Cassie and Glen Cooper), Julianna Day and Cullan Hamilton (Officer Pudney and Officer Welch).

    The production team is made up of Cynthia Allen (set design), Jasper Berryman-Moore (set construction /stage manager), Oliver Worner (lighting design), Brad Watts (sound), Cyndal Emerson (props), Elaine Landry and Robyn Walker-Spencer (costumes), Abi Hammond (hair and make-up). Set construction and painting by Brian Bland, Jillian Gamage, Farin Weidman, Bradlee Watts, Li Wolfrum, Oliver Worner, Elias Porter, Julliana Day, Lily Nelson and Mr. Ash’s Tech Theater classes.

    The play is directed by Kim Murphy with technical direction by Rick Ash.

    The CHRHS production of Neil Simon’s Rumors plays for one weekend only. It is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. The 2 p.m. matinee on May 4 does not include a meal.
