THOMASTON – Charlene S. Anderson, 86 passed away October 15, 2018 after an extended illness in Rockland. Born in Rockland, February 23, 1932, she was the daughter of Robert Gordon and Arlene Smith Spaulding. She attended schools in Stonington and Thomaston, graduating with honors from Thomaston High School in 1950.

She was employed at the former Brackett’s Drug Store from the time she was in High School until the business was sold. She considered this to be the best job she ever had, as she knew all the people in town, especially the young children. She then worked at McDonald’s Drug Store and later was employed from 1979 to 2000 for Peoples Heritage Bank as a teller, making many friends over the years.

She was known to many for her delicious yeast rolls and love of cooking. She loved spending time with those she loved, listening to her music and going for ice cream. Her children and grandchildren will always love her to the moon and back.

She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Other than her parents, Charlene was pre-deceased by her stepfather Harold Whitehall; brothers Philip Spaulding and Robert Spaulding and his wife Marjorie; daughters Diane A. Henry in 2001 and Carla J. Henry in
2010; son-in-law Russell Elwell and her beloved husband Arthur B. Anderson in 2003.

She is survived by one son, Dwight R. Henry and his wife Michelle of Thomaston; two daughters Susan M. Henry of Thomaston, Allison J. Libby and her husband William of Cushing; step-daughter Debra Andreasen of Warren; grandchildren, Willow Henry-Elwell, Justin Henry, Cameron Henry all of Thomaston and Nicolas Lemieux of Saco; step-grandchildren, Tara Elwell, Chad Johnson and wife Candi, Dara Dority-Taylor, Gavin Dority; three sisters, Jeanene Bartlett of Westminster, MA, Anita Cullen and her husband, Fred of Rockland and Carolyn Ward and her husband Owen of Wellfleet, MA; brothers-in-law, Walter Anderson of Thomaston and Walter Henry of Warren; sisters-in-law, Janet Spaulding and Cindi Spaulding, both of Rockland, and Kay Durand of Biddeford; several special nieces, nephews and cousins, and Arthur D. Henry, the father of her children.

While Charlene requested a graveside service, due to the possibility of inclement weather and realizing she would be concerned for everyone’s comfort and wellbeing, her service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday,
November 2, 2018, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Private burial will be in the Village Cemetery, Thomaston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bob Gagnon Cancer Care Fund, C/O Pen Bay Waldo Healthcare Foundation, 22 White Street, Rockland, ME 04841 or Pope Memorial Humane Society of
