ROCKPORT — Rockport firefighters and an ambulance crew from North East Mobile Health Services helped a driver from her small Volvo sedan Tuesday afternoon, June 11, after she smashed the car into a stone wall.

The crash occurred just after 4 p.m. on Russell Ave., as she was apparently heading northeast from Rockport Village toward Aldermere Farm, according to Fire Chief Jason Peasley.

Russell Ave. is a narrow road connecting Rockport with Camden. Its runs past the Belted Galloway cows and is a popular walking and biking route. There is limited sidewalk on the route and people tend to walk and bike in the road, as well as park along its side.

The driver reportedly hit a parked car on the right hand side of the road, the force of which sent her across the road to hit a stone wall outside a house, and then her car came to rest against a granite boulder.

The vehicle was significantly damaged, said Peasley, and the driver was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center for cuts and abrasions, and an evaluation. Her air bag did deploy.

Camden Exxon towed the vehicle while firefighters cleaned up the debris.

Rockport Police are investigating the incident.
