CAMDEN — The Camden Snow Bowl hosted the Maine Junior Ski League for the first annual “Race to the Sea” middle school race Saturday, Jan. 27.

The top three teams in the league participated in the event as a tune-up for the state championships, which are only two and a half weeks away.

The Camden Snow Bowl staff labored to pull off an incredibly challenging race for 70 participants with very little snow.

In the end, Maranacook stole the show, besting the Farmington area ski team and the Camden Snow Bowl in both the girls and boys divisions.

“We had so much fun with this race we are going to make it an annual event,” said race director Mike White. “Kids got to race two runs of slalom on a great course in the morning and then spend the afternoon free-skiing and schussing down the Toboggan Chute. What kid wouldn’t love that! I have a feeling that this event will draw many more teams in the future.”

For team results in the boys division, Maranacook finished first with 15 points, Farmington finished second with 32 and Camden finished third with 33.

For team results in the girls division, Maranacook finished first with 20 points, Camden finished second with 35 and Farmington finished third with 44.
