Camden Rockport Middle School presents dinner theater with ‘Offed at the Bake-Off’

Tue, 03/19/2019 - 5:00pm

CAMDEN – The Camden Rockport Middle School will present a dinner theater on Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30. The 6 p.m. dinner will take place in the school’s cafeteria on Knowlton Street, and is followed by the comedy, Offed at the Bake-Off, by Matt Steele and Mike Steel.

“CRMS has never produced a dinner theater,” said director Ellen Curtis. “Our space in the building during construction for a large cast is very limited.  So a smaller show with dinner seemed to be the right choice.”

Susan Bovin, food service director for MSAD 28 and the Five Towns CSD, will be preparing and serving the dinner.

The cast includes 28, comprising sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.

Reservations must be received by Friday, March 22, as seating and dinner is limited.

The Friday, March 29, dinner begins at 6 p.m., followed by the show. There are two shows on Saturday, March 30; the first, a 1:30 p.m. matinee featuring hot chocolate and cookies, but no meal followed by the show. The second show that day will include a dinner that begins at 6 p.m., followed by the show.

Dinner includes BBQ chicken, meatless baked beans, potato salad, green salad, dinner rolls, and corn bread. Dessert will be peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students under 12. The whole family can attend for $25. Tickets for the Saturday matinee are $6.

Reservations can be made by visiting the school’s website, http://www.fivetowns.net/crms/ or their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CRMSschooners/  or call the school at 207 236-7805.

    Synopsis of show:

It is the stormy evening before the 33rd annual Knotting Bake-Off, brought to you by J & J Toothpaste.   The contestants have gathered at the Knotting Inn down at the Corpus Christi Texas Shore, each hoping that their perfectly crafted baked good will win the coveted blue ribbon.

It seems someone’s dessert is more deadly than tasty, though, when they discover someone has been poisoned during a press conference. It is clear that someone at the inn has a sweet tooth for murder.

But who could the culprit be?  The suspect list gets longer and longer as you look at the egotistical bake-off champion and the hard-of-hearing elderly man?  Or perhaps it’s the practical jokester nun, or the silent fitness model? Add a clumsy reporter and an amnesiac woman, or one of the other kooky bake-off contestants roaming around the inn.

A detective arrives on the scene and flying accusations are part of the fun ingredients that make this murder mystery a recipe for a hilarious night at the theatre.

A rollicking comedy with a laugh at every turn.

CRMS students are asking if you are coming to the show, to please bring “a healthy snack or meal that your children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews enjoy.”  They are going to donate all food received to the Area Interfaith Outreach Food Pantry.
