Mon, 05/07/2018 - 10:30am

ROCKLAND — After a day of challenging conditions of strong and extremely shifty winds, Camden Hills placed first at the Apprenticeship team racing regatta on Saturday, May 5.

Boothbay came in at a close second, only losing by one point, while Islesboro placed third.

Five teams competed with 30 races being sailed on Saturday in Rockland. Each team raced against another team for three rounds with winds between 15-20 knots and gusting up to 25, resulting in the regatta being sailed close to the harbor.

Camden Hills recorded an 11-1 record, while Boothbay finished 10-12, Islesboro 6-6, Rockland 3-9 and Portland 0-12.

For Camden Hills, skippers Hugh Levitt, Simon Morin and Calvin James showed their experience and were able to execute team racing moves in the tough conditions. The next regatta will be held May 12-13 at Maine Maritime Academy when Camden Hills seeks to repeat as state champion.
