ROCKPORT — The goal of New Books, New Readers is to encourage reluctant adult readers to find the joy in reading. The club, brought to the community through a collaboration with the Maine Humanities Council, uses books at various, accessible, reading levels to open the world of books and ideas.

Participants learn to love reading by engaging in facilitated discussions that relate a book’s themes to their own lives, according to the Fivetowns Adult Ed program.

The theme followed by Fivetowns will be "Carrying the Past."

Readers are given a copy of every book in the series to keep and are encouraged to share their enjoyment with family and friends. In this way, New Books, New Readers hopes to be community building, personal and a social outlet, all at once, according to the release.

The Adult Ed program is also looking for volunteers to help tutor and partner with participants to engage in the books between sessions.

New Books, New Readers will meet the last Tuesday of the month beginning February 26, with the last meeting on May 28.  Each session will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Camden Hills Regional High School.

Registration is limited, so sign-up early! New Books, New Readers is free, but registration is required.

Camden Hills Regional High School is at 25 Keelson Dr., Rockport, off Rt. 90.
