ROCKLAND — Bonnie Farmer Assemblage Art & Gallery presents its guest artist for the month of July: abstract painter Jill Caldwell, who resides in Key West, Florida and Rockland. The show, titled "Edges," will be colorful, bright and edgy.

Color is how Caldwell relates to the world and her abstract paintings are about time, experiences and relationships. Her process involves layering and removing of paint, moments of reflection, mixing textures, editing and revealing as the painting evolves. Her paintings are nonrepresentational, yet some say her paintings are evocative of a landscape or seascape.

While best known in the Midcoast area as a wedding photographer, Farmer now creates 3D Assemblage Art. Her namesake gallery has evolved out of her move back to the coast eight years ago, the start of creating her assemblage art, and now having an opportunity for a gallery just below her studio.

Bonnie said of Caldwell's work, "It energizes me and it is adding more color to my work. I am totally mesmerized by Jill's work."

Both artists are busy producing new, smaller, affordable pieces for this show. Farmer's black and white fine art documentary photographs will also be on exhibit.

As an event photographer, Farmer pays special attention to design, shape, color, lighting and the ambiance of a space. All of this comes into play in her new gallery. Farmer finds much of the fun is in the "planning and getting ready" for each new show with a guest artist.

She said she loves seeing that vision come together, and is looking forward to the First Friday Art Walk on July 6.

"This show is very different than my first show; I am interspersing Jill's work with mine throughout the gallery."

“Edges” will be on display throughout the month of July at The Bonnie Farmer Assemblage Art & Gallery, located at 166 South Main St., Rockland. Their hours of operation are Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the second Wednesday of the month from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the Rockland First Friday Art Walks on July 6 and August 3.
