ROCKLAND — The Strand Theatre’s second annual winter festival, “The Big Rockland Chill,” will take place Saturday, Jan. 20, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., outside in the Oak Street Alley in Rockland and in the theater. All outdoor activities are free of charge.

Outdoor activities in the Alley are appropriate for all ages, and are hosted by local organizations in addition to the Strand. The Flatbread Food Bus will be on hand with food options for sale.

Throughout the day there will be snow painting hosted by artist Kim Bernard, live music performed by The Huddled Masses Orchestra, "Froga" (frozen yoga) hosted by Earth Flow + Fire, an interactive camp set-up by Maine Sport Outfitters, a S’mores Station, a Yeti Disco Dance Party, and more.

At 1 p.m., a Pet Fashion Parade will take place; all kinds of pets (escorted by their people) are invited to show off their finest winter wear and vie for prizes. No advance registration is necessary, and pets should meet at the corner of Oak and Union Streets at 1 p.m.

In the theater, the fun starts with a Sing-Along screening of Frozen (2013) at 11 a.m. Tickets are $5 for all. Classic film shorts will be presented between 1 - 4 p.m., with no admission fee. A Yarn Swap will take place in the lobby from 2 -3 p.m.; please visit the Strand website for participation guidelines.

At the CMCA (Center for Maine Contemporary Art), a special Art Lab will be offered from 2 - 4 p.m. Participants will assemble a variety of cardboard creatures, mobiles, sculptures and more. Admission to this drop-in class is free.

Topping off the day will be a 7 p.m. screening of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980); regular movie ticket pricing will apply to this show.
