BELFAST — The Belfast Free Library will now be offering two drop-in sessions per week for the public to use its new Makerspace – Monday mornings, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Thursday afternoons, from 1 to 3 p.m., in the third floor conference room of the Library.

A makerspace is a space for people to use computer and other equipment to collaborate, create, and invent.

The Belfast Free Library has the following equipment available for use: 10 PC laptops with Microsoft Office’s suite of products; a MacBook with Adobe Creative Cloud’s suite of products; a multi-format color printer; a high-resolution scanner; a Bluetooth-accessible wall-mounted monitor; a VHS-to-DVD converter; a video camera, tripod, lighting equipment, and green screen; a microphone and over-ear headphones; and a sewing machine.

A librarian will be available to help people get started, after which they will be able to work on their own.

Some examples of uses of this equipment include editing photos with Photoshop, scanning old photos to send to family or friends, converting VHS home movies to DVDs, following a sewing tutorial using a laptop and sewing machine, printing posters, and much more.

This Makerspace was made possible by a grant from the William W. Treat Foundation, and it is free to the public.
