ROCKPORT - Barbara Jean Chapman, 51, died unexpectedly, Monday, July 16, 2018 at her home.

She was born September 4, 1966 in Camden, the daughter of Linda Ann Light Hodgkins and Harold Nelson Hodgkins.  She is survived by her children, Joshua P. Willett, Joseph E. Willett and Kristin A. Willett; her horse Spirit; dogs, Hunter and ToTo. She is also survived by her sister Angie Reed, her brother, Tom Hodgkins, and her loving family. Barbara will be sadly missed by her spouse of the last decade David Leland.

Barbara was raised in Rockport and as she grew into a free spirited woman, she moved throughout Maine. She was like a gypsy, always on the move. Barbara happily lived out her last years on the coast of Maine, with her significant other David Leland.

She was proud of her heritage and strove to become a great lobster woman. She was not afraid of hard work or getting dirty in the process.  She was also a handy woman, who could find a way to make and/or fix most anything.

She enjoyed many years of Showmanship, and working with horses was a true passion for her. She took home many blue ribbons for her work with quarter-horses. She was passionate about all livings things. She later opened a daycare.  If there was a baby around, it always found a way to Barbara’s caring and loving arms.

Barbara had the ability to make friends wherever she went. Her personality could not be contained to one word. She was an open heart willing to help anyone in need. She loved all of her family and friends unconditionally.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday July 20, 2018 at West Rockport Baptist Church. Refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow.
