MIDCOAST — While the rain has ended, a cold front moving in from the west is now beating down branches and trees with gusty winds, resulting in some road closures. In Washington, a tree is blocking one road, and in Lincolnville, at the intersection of Cobbtown Road and Route 1, branches from a tree fell onto power lines, sending them to the road, live and sparking. And in Camden, a transformer blew near Eaton and Arey avenues, send wires sparking, while another tree fell onto Chestnut Street, where some homes are without power.

Firefighters in the three communities are now on scene, clearing the debris. The storm is not as strong nor dangerous as the Nov. 2, 2014 storm, which knocked power out for a week or more for many residents, but it does bring the threat of strong weather as winter closes in.

And in some backyards, trees and limbs have likewise fallen, presenting lots of work on Sunday for chainsaw and cleanup crews. The National Weather Service is forecasting clearer skies, and diminishing winds out of the northwest as the evening progresses. Currently, in Rockland, winds are blowing in from the west, 20-25 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph.

According to Central Maine Power’s outage information page, customers throughout the state are now without power.

Camden, Cushing and Hope in Knox County are most affected, while in Waldo County, the towns hardest hit are Islesboro, Northport, Searsport and Searsmont.
